Vegan Valentine’s Day πŸ’ž πŸ’š

Ah it’s that time again! A day to show someone you love them. Valentine’s Day, also known as St. Valentine or the Feast of Saint Valentine, celebrates romantic love and romance.

In Christendom, there are many martyrs known as valentines, but on February 14, Valentine or Rome and Valentine of Turni are the two valentines celebrated. There are many legends regarding St. Valentine, however, the one that stands out, is a story that says St. Valentine, who wore an amethyst ring, married Roman soldiers to their beloved. In addition, in order to remind men of their love, he cut out hearts and gave it to these soldiers and also to persecuted Christians in the Roman era.

It is said that the Roman soldiers would recognize this Valentine by his amethyst ring that had a cupid engraved in it.

In other traditions the Feast of Saint Valentines is a spring festival celebrating the advent of spring and in Rome it was a celebration of fertility. In fact, there was no connection to St. Valentine and romantic love until the poems of Chaucer in the 14th century.

It wasn’t until the 19th century that Valentine cards were sent out. In England, printers were able to produce large amounts of cards to be sent and it allowed individuals to remain anonymous.

In the United States, Esther Howland was impressed by a Valentine she received from an English businessman, that she created and sold Valentine cards with elaborate decorations. Today, Valentine’s day is more popular then ever.

Every year, we take pleasure in showing our love for people on this St. Valentine’s day.
